New Zealand Golf Courses & Etiquette

New Zealand golf courses are wonderful and scenic places to enjoy a game of golf. Like anywhere else in the world it is expected that basic etiquette be followed when visiting and playing a course. You will find most New Zealand golf courses are maintained to a very high standard and visitors are expected to respect them.

SAFETY
- Do not stand too close to the player making a stroke.

UNDUE DELAY
- Wherever possible prepare to play your next stroke whilst others are playing.

LOST BALL
- Allow others to play through if searching for a lost ball.

PRIORITY ON THE COURSE
- A single player has no standing and should give way to a match of any kind.

BUNKERS
- Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes. This allows the next player to have a fair lie.

REPLACE DIVOTS
- Damage to New Zealand golf courses will repair very quickly if any turf cut or displaced is replaced at once and pressed down.

REPAIR BALL MARKS
- The damage should be leveled with a pitch mark repairer or tee peg and then tapped down with a putter.

DAMAGE TO GREENS AND FLAGSTICK
- Do not lean on a putter or flagstick.

GOLF CARTS
- Carts must at all times be driven with a high regard to the course. Many New Zealand golf courses are very undulating and care must be taken when driving carts.

GENERAL COURSE CARE
- Please respect all New Zealand golf courses and Do Not take trolleys onto tees or greens.

GENERAL BEHAVIOUR
- Have due regard for your playing partner - be courteous and watch where his/her ball lands.

SLOW PLAY
- Do not mark your card while on the green, Walk quickly between shots. Be ready to play when it is your turn or play "Ready Golf" (playing out of turn if it is safe to do so).

DRESS
- On New Zealand golf courses football or tennis shorts, track suits, t-shirts and jeans are not generally permitted.
